FAQs about HYROX
HYROX is the fitness race you’ve always been training for. It combines running with functional fitness where participants run 1km followed by one functional workout, repeated eight times. HYROX is made for every body, with different categories for different abilities. These include Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay.
HYROX training requires both strength and endurance. 50% of the race is running, up to a total of 8km. In between each run is a functional fitness workout like a sled pull or a farmers carry. This means it’s important to gain plenty of experience running after strength training too.
Another aspect you might neglect is form. Get to know the HYROX movement standards to make sure you’re training correctly to avoid injury and incorrect movements.
The letters in the word HYROX don’t stand for anything. HYROX is simply a combination of the words “hybrid” and “rockstar”.
The race consists of eight 1km runs either side of eight functional fitness exercises.
The format is as follows:
- 1km run
- SkiErg
- 1km run
- Sled push

- Burpee broad jumps

Whatever you feel comfortable in. You’ll need to be able to move freely, feel supported, and comfortable throughout the race. So make sure you’re wearing sweat-wicking fabric, a supportive sports bra if you need one, and running trainers that you’re used to.
