AAKG Powder
A powerful form of arginine that’s ideal for all workouts
What does AAKG stand for?
AAKG stands for Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate.
What is the difference between l-arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate?
L arginine is simply another name for the amino acid, arginine, which is a semi-essential amino acid. This means that it is not just found in foods, but also produced by the human body – in this case from glutamine via citrulline. The body uses arginine to produce biochemicals, enzymes and proteins.
AAKG, on the other hand, is a salt of the amino acid arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate, which have been bonded together. The two are often coupled and offered in nutritional supplements such as pre-workouts.
Many forms of arginine have been produced in order to improve effectiveness and absorption. Our AAKG is different to many 1:1 forms on the market as it offers AAKG with a ratio of 2:1. This means that our arginine alpha-ketoglutarate is made from two arginine molecules attached to one molecule of alpha-ketoglutarate.
Which foods are high in arginine?
Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid, which means that it can be found in your diet. Foods which contain arginine include meats, seafood, nuts and seeds, whole grains, and dairy amongst others. Arginine can also be found in numerous protein supplements in varying quantities.
- Naturally occurring in protein
- Suitable for all goals
- Precursor to nitric oxide
- Can be added to your favourite shakes
Nutritional information may vary depending on flavour.
Getting amino acids from your diet can be expensive and time-consuming — shopping, prepping meals, as well as cooking. Our AAKG is a convenient way of keeping your body topped up on arginine and alpha-ketoglutarate.
What are the benefits of arginine?
Amino acids occur naturally within protein, which helps to repair and build new muscle1 — an important factor regardless as to what your fitness goals may be.
Arginine is also a direct precursor of the biochemical, nitric oxide (NO). NO is a vasodilator, meaning it causes the blood vessels to expand. It is for this reason that AAKG has been added as a component to many pre-workout boosters and pump formulas.
What are the benefits of alpha-ketoglutarate?
Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) is a form of glutaric acid. It is a chemical found in the body, which is involved in the citric acid cycle. In the body, it is a precursor of glutamate and glutamine.
